What is a Panelized home?
An Alternative Solution to the Challenges of Home Building

In the high-tech approach known as panelized construction, pre-engineered wall sections are produced for a new home in factory-controlled conditions, then shipped complete to the building site for final construction. A panelized home can be weather tight in just a few days.

Unlike mobile homes, leading panelized home manufacturers {such as Harvest Homes} offer tremendous flexibility in design, and their resellers can provide any amenities desired in a new home.

Some panelized manufacturers work through networks of general contractors (professional home builders such as Arcanna Homes).

Pre-building roof and floor trusses in a factory is the most common application of panelized construction in home building today. But recently, the National Association of Home Builders reported that complete home panelization is the "fastest growing segment of residential new construction".

Pre-building roof and floor trusses in a factory is the most common application of panelized construction in home building today.”

Built with the aid of cutting-edge automation and in factory-perfect conditions, complete exterior and interior wall panels, trusses, decking, etc. are loaded onto panelized manufacturers' trucks and delivered to the homesite. Materials are marked at the factory with a code to eliminate any confusion at the jobsite (i.e., wall "A-1" joins wall "A-2".)

For some panelized manufacturers, their involvement in the construction of the home can be finished when the materials are delivered, with all field work completed by the general contractor (Arcanna Homes). Other times they can provide a crane and "set crews" when the materials are delivered to work with the general contractor (Arcanna Homes) in getting the home framed in. If requested, Arcanna Homes can also supply all necessary labor to complete the home.

A Panelized Home is not a Modular Home.

Every new home can be built using a panelized building process. Unlike the modular building process, a panelized home can be completely customized — even after the framing is complete.

"When our customers walk into their house they can still make changes (ie. add closets, doorways, move walls, rooms, etc.)," says Robert Frissora. "All materials, including structural supports, can easily be modified to fit any home floor plan."

While a modular home is also completely built in the factory, it is pre-assembled in sections which are joined together on site to a few standard footing designs. This provides little customization.

Further, with panelized construction, new home owners do not have to worry about the size of the trucks and what's allowed on highways or local roads. We legally transport direct on all roads.

Modular construction is about the same investment, but still requires all the licensed contractors and suppliers that a panelized home requires. In reality, a modular assembly often does not provide a large enough job for contractors to take the work seriously.

Hence, a common disadvantage is that with a modular home you will be less likely to get the help you need to finish the house as fast. This can increase the move-in time and make managing the project more complex and costly.

"After a few weeks with Arcanna Homes, I realized that panelized construction is the only way to build a custom home. I enjoyed working with your crew and it felt good to do some of the work myself. Thanks for the excellent service!"
